RT Trainer is a web based practice platform for future pilots learning the Radio Telephony (RT) skills required to pass the CAA RT exam in order to obtain a Flight Radiotelephony Operator's License (FRTOL). More information about the licence and exam can be found on the CAA's website.
This website was created as part of Zac Benattar's third year computer science project. The fronted was built using Svelte and the backend is a Vite webserver built using SvelteKit. The website is hosted by Vercel. This project was developed with assistance from the South Warwickshire Flying School. The project is open source and can be found on GitHub, and is licensed under the MIT License.
- Aeronatical Data
All airport and airspace data comes from OpenAIP, a free and up to date aeronautical information database for flight simulation and aviation. The data is licensed under the CC BY-NC 4.0 license.
- Map
The map component is provided by Leaflet and uses OpenStreetMap data. The map is rendered using Mapbox tiles.
The component based form of the map was inspired by ShipBit's YouTube video.
